Many horror films deploy the trope of the female monster to depict feminine bodies and sexuality as monstrous, justifying the existing patriarchal order. Although female monsters transgress gender norms and wield power not typically granted to women, they are also constrained by the ideological constructs of the genre. My work explores the concept of the monstrous feminine through deviant figures that lurch between the embodiment and subversion of this trope.
